We once again partner with the denim craftsmen at Blackhorse Lane Atelier, for an updated take on our ever-popular Model No. 3 Jean.
The denim jean is perhaps the most versatile and hard-working pair of trousers one can have in one’s wardrobe. Few other garments fit so comfortably in so many contexts, complementing everything from tailoring to casualwear. It was with this in mind that we created our signature pair of jeans: the Drake’s Model No. 3, a pair hand-cut from an unwashed selvedge denim, with a neat, gently tapered leg and a discretely higher rise. The idea was to create a pair of jeans that would fit perfectly into the wardrobe of the Drake’s man – the only pair one would need.
To achieve this we partnered with Blackhorse Lane Ateliers, a community-focused denim workshop (and the only factory to produce jeans in London in the last 50 years) just a short distance from our home on Haberdasher Street. Following the popularity of the original Model No. 3 we have made some subtle improvements to the design, refining the fit very slightly, and opting for a 13oz selvedge – just a touch more substantial than the 11oz we previously used. Besides that, all the key details remain in place: copper hardware, French seams, a one-piece fly and reinforced rivets.
The result is an indispensable item of clothing, one that not only arrives as a fine piece of craftsmanship, but will continue to improve with age, as it shapes and moulds to the wearer.
