The Revue, March 2020

The Revue returns for March with a fine selection of things to eat, read and gaze upon across the globe, from icons of contemporary architecture, to a North London cheese and wine hangout - we’ve got you covered.

SEE: Guido Guidi, Moon Faces, Large Glass Gallery, London

Large Glass gallery hosts an exhibition of work from famed Italian photographer Guido Guidi. Best known for his landscapes capturing unfamiliar scenes across rural corners of his home country, this selection of work takes a completely different direction, looking instead to the night sky for inspiration. Moon Faces, created between 1968-99, illustrates the artist’s fascination with both the moon and the light it casts, ordinary scenes made extraordinary by shadow and reflection. Catch the exhibition, and find more of Guido Guidi’s work in a small selection of books currently stocked at Drake’s Savile Row store.

Until 17th April, 392 Caledonian Road, London N1 1DN

DRINK: Tabac, Tufnell Park, London

A former tobacconist, Tabac took over this compact space on Fortess Road, Kentish Town, in 2019, two doors down from its sister venue, restaurant Patron. A cosy French bar that gets just about everything right: soft lighting, great music at the right volume and good people behind the bar, Tabac is best known for its generous wine pours and a very moreish ‘St Germain’ cocktail. If that’s not enough to tempt you in, there’s a top selection of cheese on offer and a truffle salami that might just change your outlook on life.

STAY: Dá Licença Hotel/Gallery, Alentejo, Portugal

The Portuguese countryside may not receive the same intense exposure as the Loire Valley or the Basque Country, for example, but that’s no reflection on its beauty or diversity of landscape. Take Alentejo for example. A vast south central region, it boasts incredible locations both on the Atlantic side and further inland, and yet remains relatively under the radar. Dá Licença, a hotel and gallery on the site of a former olive mill, finds itself in the northeast of this 10,530 square mile stretch of land. Renovated in 2013, lime washed walls play backdrop to artwork and furniture collected over decades by owners Victor Borges and Franck Laigneau. Overlooking rolling hills and lush farmland, this peaceful stop off is the ideal base to explore this underrated region.
