Looks like it’ll be a staycation for the majority of us this summer. We’d all like to be jetting off somewhere a bit more exotic, but it can’t be helped, all we can do is make the best of it. Perhaps you’re destined for a two-week stay in a drizzly caravan park on the coast. Admittedly not as glamorous as the Cote d’Azur, but who says you can’t bring your own glamour? Whether you’re bombing into a picturesque lake or easing yourself into a freezing lido, a good pair of swim shorts can go a long way in transporting you (mentally, at least) to somewhere a bit more salubrious.
Good swim shorts can be hard to find, however. It seems the key tenets of high-quality fabric, perfect fit, and a fetching pattern rarely align. So, in an attempt to address this, we’ve once again produced our own swim shorts which we hope tick all the boxes.
Made in Italy from a quick-drying high-performance nylon, we’ve put a lot of thought into the fit. You don’t want a pair of those needlessly long, almost-at-the-knee numbers that make you look like an overgrown toddler. We’ve based ours on examples from the first half of the 20th century, keeping the cut neat but not tight, and the inseam short (but not offensively so).
And then we have the patterns. As you’re no doubt aware, we’ve got an extensive archive of print designs to draw on for our ties and scarves, dating back to our earliest days in the late 1970s. But these prints don’t just lend themselves to accessories. As it turns out, they’re perfect for swim shorts, too, so now you can take your favourite paisley or Mughal design in the pool with you without ruining a good silk tie. There are also summery beach prints, and a vintage-inspired diver motif. And if those aren’t your thing either, we’ve got stripes, spots, and medallions.
