Benjamin Kempton: My Made-to-Order Tie

Wallpaper* Magazine's interiors editor-at-large tells us what he likes about his newest made-to-order tie.

My Cloth

I was drawn to the texture of the fabric - at first sight it looks rough, but is in fact soft to the touch. The speckled nature of the yarn reminds me of the granite landscape on the Outer Hebrides.

My Construction

Being a nice dense fabric, I chose a light lining to allow for a bit of movement. The proportion of the medium width suites my style. I love the hand rolled tip, it gives the tie a soft edge. When you turn it over, you can see it is unique and handmade.

How I Wear It

It’s a very versatile design, I wear it with my favourite dark blue jeans and light cotton shirt. The light flecks of the tie lift a dark suit beautifully.
