Drake's with Vitale Barberis Canonico

We travelled to the legendary cloth mill in Biella, to select fabrics for a capsule collection of elegantly tailored suits.

Drake's has long had a relationship with Vitale Barberis Canonico, often using the mill's exceptional fabrics for our soft tailoring. In an exclusive collaboration with them, we developed three fabrics which offer subtle twists on some of VBC's most famous products.

Our Creative Director, Michael Hill, had the following to say:

We've teamed with VBC on a trio of beautiful cloths, available exclusively to us.

The first is a navy chalk stripe flannel, which was inspired by a suit that a friend of mine wore. He's an Italian cloth weaver who's worked in the industry all his life. He inherited the suit from his father in fact. It was such a rich cloth but the stripe was nice and subtle. I knew we had to do our own version.

The second is a green covert, which would typically be an overcoating weight, but we think it's just lovely for winter tailoring. Covert tends to be marled, but this is a beautiful, solid colour. We put it through a washing cycle to give it that wonderful softness.

And lastly there's a grey six-ply wool with an extraordinary depth of colour. The yarns have more variation in tone, so the overall effect is remarkable. Six-ply is something of a signature for VBC, so it was a pleasure to do our own version.
